SHEMESH FARMS HERBS

To bulk up for the soup season, we dry a lot of herbs that we grow in our gardens.  It’s never enough.  So I purchase additional herbs from several locations, including Penzy’s and The Savory Spice Shop in Sellwood. Last fall I learned about this spice company and what they do. The company is Shemesh Farms.  They’re located in Malibu.  To read their story is heartwarming and inspiring.  They employ [Farm Fellows] who have special needs and diverse abilities and give them opportunities to gain independence and meet their personal goals. Together with volunteers, Farm Fellows participate in the planting and harvesting, and creating ShemeshFarms signature herb infused culinary salts and spices which are sold online and at Los Angeles area farmer’s markets.

I bought several of their spice blends. They’re fantastic! One of my favorites is Pacific Provence ~ a blend of lavender, oregano, thyme, basil, marjoram and Himalayan pink salt.  We’ve used this on chicken, grilled vegetable skewers and in a couple of salad dressings.  It’s a great addition to my spice cabinet.

Read the Shemesh story, maybe consider buying some of their products and supporting a good company.  Here’s the link: https://shemeshfarms.com/pages/our-story-1
