What is Pepper & Salt?

We are a small local artisan delivery business specializing in handcrafted soups and edibles.  We make small batches of organic, seasonal soups, health-boosting sipping broths & foods and offer locals the opportunity to purchase each week. Many of the ingredients that go into our base stocks are from produce we grow at peak season right in our own organic Pepper & Salt Garden.  We also take advantage of local bounty by purchasing from farms such as Schoolyard Farms, The Urban Farm Center, Greenville Farms, Siri Farms and Our Table Farmer’s Coop.  We strive to support economy and our farmers by purchasing locally and using organic whenever possible.

Our soup season generally runs October 15th through May 31st.  In early spring we start planting for summer and spend most of June through last September growing, harvesting and preserving foods to use in our soups throughout the year.  We grow on average 600 lbs of heirloom tomatoes, a variety of peppers, butternut, acorn, crookneck, zucchini, pattypan and turban squash, broccoli and cauliflower, potatoes, Jerusalem artichokes, corn, lots of basil, thyme, tarragon, parsley, chives, leeks, garlic, lacinato kale, bok choy, red and green cabbage, cucumbers, and pole beans.  That’s just for soups.  We also have grapes, figs, pears, apples, plums, peaches, raspberries and marionberries that we manage throughout the peak season as well.

This doesn’t keep us from offering pop-up menus during the summer that feature a variety of salads and amazing dressings, salsas, wraps, and summer soups.  If you check out our Pepper & Salt Facebook page, you’ll find our weekly menus and announcements regarding community events we participate in.
